St. Andrew's Descent / Андреевский спуск

Country: Ukraine

Town: Kiev

Address: Ukraine, Kiev, St. Andrew's Descent

Type: Other

Description: Andreevsky Spusk (St. Andrew's Descent), which twists in serpentine fashion between the Kiev hills and ends in Podol.
It is difficult to find any other street in the world which can be compared with Andreevsky Spusk in its picturesque beauty. It was most probably because of this that it was always so beloved by artists. Many well-known artists, sculptors and writers lived here. The most famous of them was Mikhail Bulgakov. The little house at No.13 Andreevsky Spusk is called the “House of Bulgakov”.
Andreevsky Spusk is called Kiev's Montmartre. It is a favoured place of artists, who gather here each year at the end of May during the opening of “Kiev Days”. Then the street becomes a place of pilgrimage for tens of thousands of Kievites and visitors to the capital. Traditionally concerts and art festivals are held here, and many picture galleries, souvenir shops, and antique dealers display their wares.
